CFMS Selects arcastream for HPC Storage System

Bristol, 23rd June 2016 – The Centre for Modelling & Simulation (CFMS), a specialist in high value design capability today announced that it has awarded the contract for the refresh of its high performance computing (HPC) storage system to arcastream, a provider of bespoke scale-out storage and data management solutions.

“The arcastream solution will enable CFMS and its customers to flexibly and seamlessly store, access and manage data, providing a software defined scale-out storage and data management solution specifically designed for the research and simulation market.”    

The selection of arcastream by CFMS, follows the recent announcement of its HPC infrastructure refresh, where the Cray® CS400™ cluster supercomputer, utilising Intel® Xeon® processor E5-2600v v4 product family, formerly codenamed “Broadwell” was chosen.

CFMS has selected a fully integrated storage solution from arcastream, powered by IBM’s Spectrum Scale, a high performance, software-defined storage platform. Also included are arcastream’s data management tools and development toolkit, accelerating collaborative workflows with granular insight into data usage and growth trends.

Offering a hardware-agnostic strategic platform for growth, the arcastream solution will enable CFMS to efficiently and granularly manage its data storage as demand fluctuates and requirements change, providing a scalable, high performance file and data management system, capable of addressing near-limitless amounts of data within a single global namespace.

System installation of Cray and arcastream solutions at CFMS will take place Summer 2016. Upon completion, an opening ceremony will be held to mark the launch of the new supercomputing facilities at CFMS.
